Advanced Electrolysis:

This method of removal and reduction uses a controlled current, known as ‘diathermy’, sent down through a small probe to remove the lesion by cauterising (stopping blood flow), desiccating (drying out), or coagulating (changing the fluid state to lift away).

Cryotherapy:

This method of removal uses a fine jet of extremely cold gas under high pressure, which destroys the tissue by freezing the inter-cellular fluid. These form ice shards which rupture the membrane, therefore destroying the cell.

Mole and Lesion Screening at Love Your Skin

We are proud to partner with consultant dermatologists through Map My Mole – an innovative, simple and advanced service that provides fast, convenient mole and skin lesion screening. Using advanced dermatoscope imaging, our trained practitioner, Hannah, can capture high-quality images of your mole or lesion, along with a short medical and social history – which are then securely reviewed by a UK expert consultant dermatologist. A detailed assessment report is typically returned within 24-48 hours, helping to identify lesions that may require a definitive diagnosis for cosmetic removal/reduction, further investigations face to face with a dermatologist or healthy lesions that are benign and harmless. This efficient service offers peace of mind without the need to wait for a GP appointment or lengthy NHS referral pathways. By providing rapid access to specialist dermatology expertise, Map My Mole helps patients receive timely advice and appropriate next steps, making skin cancer screening and lesion assessment more accessible, convenient, and effective.

Lesion removal: FAQs

What methods of removal do you use?
Advanced Electrolysis: This method of removal and reduction uses a controlled current, known as ‘diathermy’, sent down through a small probe to remove the lesion by cauterising (stopping blood flow), desiccating (drying out), or coagulating (changing the fluid state to lift away). Cryotherapy: This method of removal uses a fine jet of extremely cold gas under high pressure, which destroys the tissue by freezing the inter-cellular fluid. These form ice shards which rupture the membrane, therefore destroying the cell. Depending on various factors, such as the lesion itself and how it presents and client suitability, will determine the method used. Prices are the same regardless of which method is used.
Does it hurt?
Blemish removal is generally well tolerated, though you may experience mild, temporary discomfort during the procedure. The treatment is minimally invasive and typically performed efficiently, with most sessions completed within a short timeframe. Throughout your appointment, your comfort remains our priority. The treatment can be carefully paced to suit you, with adjustments and brief pauses incorporated as needed to ensure a calm and controlled experience.
How long does it take to remove a lesion?
It depends on the blemish, but most blemishes can take under a few minutes to treat, sessions may be longer if you have multiple or larger blemishes to treat, or telangiectasia due to the number of capillaries. Overall sessions are between 10-20 minutes. This will all be discussed and explained during your consultation.
Can I have my lesion removed during the consultation?
It depends on the number of lesions, what they are and where they are! Most consultations are an assessment and planning for the removal; some consultations may involve a patch test if there is multiple to remove. If it is a straightforward lesion, diagnosis or screening is not required, and we cannot perform a patch test, removals can be done at the same appointment, however it is a case-by-case scenario.
